Our Adoption Process

Free to Apply
Dog and cat adoption applications are free to complete with no obligation to adopt a pet. Applications can be submitted for specific animals or can be submitted for general approval to adopt from SAAP. Approval is valid for 6 months or one completed adoption, whichever comes first. Most adoption applications are reviewed within approximately 72 hours, but landlord checks and other factors may lengthen the review timeline.
Best Fit Rescue
As a best fit rescue, SAAP is committed to ensuring a best fit match for adoptive families and animals. We recognize that each animal is unique, and we work to understand the specific needs, temperament, and behavioral traits of each animal to ensure an appropriate match with potential adopters. Once approved, our adoption coordinators will help schedule a meet and greet to ensure an animal is the right fit prior to adoption.
Meet Your Match
While you may be approved to adopt an animal from SAAP, you may not be selected as the best fit applicant for the animal you are interested in. Please be patient and trust that we will help match you to your best fit family member! There are never any obligations to adopt an animal you meet at a meet and greet.
Please note: SAAP only adopts animals to residents of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
