Please Take These Steps Immediately
Call SAAP immediately at 513-813-6863 and leave a detailed message. Include your name and phone number, your animal’s known name and (if remembered) their SAAP name, last known sighting (what direction they were running, landmarks) and personality traits (likes other dogs/cats, knows his/her name, comes when called, timid/scared, food motivated, etc.). Our Search & Rescue team will create an online LOST poster and flag their microchip as lost in case they are scanned at a shelter or vet’s office.
Make large signs (preferably brightly colored) and post at all busy intersections. Many times someone finds and animal right away and doesn’t know who to call unless they see a sign. Include all relevant information (name, phone number as the largest item on the poster, animal’s name, collar/leash color).
Distribute flyers to everyone in the neighborhood. Going door to door will help give you more information about where your dog was last seen. Distribute flyers to your local animal shelter, veternarian office, SPCA, animal control office, police/fire station and high traffic businesses. You may need to physically visit the SPCA or local shelters to check intake for a description matching your animal as not all counties post found pets online.
Post on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X (Formerly Twitter), and Nextdoor. Post on the SAAP Facebook group at facebook.com/groups/strayanimaladoptionprogram. Most community and neighborhood associations also have lost pet pages where you can post.
Place strong scented personal articles (pet bed, blankets, towels) and your animal’s favorite food/toys outside in case they’re trying to find their way back.
For very timid and scared animals: Determine if your animals is spotted at a certain time of day. Once spotted, check those areas at that time. Stay quiet and calm so they aren’t scared away. You can play dead or toss food in their direction, gradually getting closer.
